User Question: Hello, hope you are doing well! My CDL expired on the same date as my work permit, but I already have an extension for my work permit. Can I still drive, or do I need to renew my CDL? Anyone with the same experience, please let me know what you did. Thank you!

Expert Answer: You need to renew your CDL before driving, as it must always be valid. Some state DMVs accept the I-797C receipt notice as proof of an extended work permit for license renewal. Check with your state’s DMV to confirm their requirements and bring your extension documents. Also, verify with your employer to ensure compliance. Never drive with an expired CDL.
