User Question: I came to America through the border in March 2024. Now I have a work permit and Social Security number, but I never went to the ICE office because I didn’t know I had to. My lawyer said they sent me an email, but my paperwork states that I need to go to the ICE office. I don’t know if I should go now or what I should do. Please, if anyone knows, tell me what I have to do?

Expert Answer: It is very important to follow any instructions from immigration authorities, including ICE. If your paperwork states that you need to check in with ICE, you should do so as soon as possible to avoid potential legal issues. Failure to report could result in complications with your immigration case. Before going, consult your lawyer to confirm the details of your case and to ensure you are prepared. Bring all your immigration documents, including your work permit, Social Security card, and any notices you have received. If you have an ICE check-in requirement, delaying it could negatively impact your case, so it’s best to address it promptly.
